“Success in the arts become a bridge to learning and eventual success in other areas of life.” Arts Education Partnership
By Jocelyn Galindo
Sometimes I walk by the empty street.
I feel the beat inside of me.
I take another step.
Wondering what would be of me someday.
I walk by Avenue Street.
Thinking, what a lovely day today.
I feel the burn. Deep inside my lonely soul.
I nearly cross the street by my house.
I wonder why I sincerely feel
so much sorrow for myself.
“The chant/song/poem is what heals the heart and soul”…..Perie J. Longo, PhD. RPT NAPT 1997
Scores of studies show poetry, music, dance, theater, and visual arts have become primary tools for teachers & counselors working to teach and aid in the healing of children, especially at risk youth.
A TEAR FALL
By Stephanie Salas
(Fifth Grade) Runner-up
I shed a tear
I felt it fall, you
caught it, shared
it, held it, felt it, then
suddenly it wasn’t so big after all.
